In the IEA forecast from 2010, the reduction in coal-based power in the OECD countries will be more than cancelled out by the increase in coal-fired power plants in the rest of the world. Particularly in China, 600 gigawatts of new capacity correspond to more than the total coal-based power currently generated in the USA, the EU and Japan. The forecast forms part of a scenario that incorporates the latest announcements from all countries (New Policies Scenario).
