Combined cycle power plants

CCGT plants generate around two thirds of the electrical power with the gas turbines and a third with the steam turbines. Since the temperature of around 600 °C and the ambient pressure mean that the exhaust gas values of the gas turbines are more or less fixed, the output of the overall process is almost exclusively improved by increasing the combustion temperature and by correspondingly increasing the compressor pressure.

In the model of the gas turbine, the compressor is positioned to the right (marked blue). Yellow is the combustor with gas pipes and red is the outtake of the turbine.
